UK 09 Sex Numbers Explained: Costs and Rules
Updated 26 October 2026
Quick answer: a UK sex phone number is a premium-rate number that starts with 09. On this site every number costs £1.00 per minute (the service charge) plus your own network’s access charge, so the total depends on the phone you ring from. You must be 18 or over and have the bill payer’s permission. This page explains what that means in pounds and pence, who regulates it, how to check what a call will cost, and what to do if something looks wrong on a bill.
If you want help choosing a style or a first-call walk-through, read our phone sex numbers guide. This page is about the numbers themselves.

What an 09 number is
UK telephone numbers are grouped by their first digits, and each group has its own rules. Numbers starting 01, 02 and 03 are geographic or standard-rate; 07 is mostly mobile; 08 covers freephone and business lines. Numbers beginning 09 are the premium-rate range. They exist so that a service provider can charge for content delivered by phone, from adult chat to quizzes and information lines, and the charge is added to the caller’s phone bill.
A sex phone number in the UK is simply an 09 number whose service is adult conversation with a live caller. You may see it called a sex line, a sex hotline, a mobile sex number or a phone sex number. They all work the same way: you ring, the call is connected, and the minutes are charged until you hang up. There is no account, subscription or card payment on this site, and nothing to install.
The numbers in our directory are operated by Datapro Services Ltd, which provides and bills the telephone service. This website is run by Kilo Delta Limited and lists the numbers; it does not take payment from you.
The two charges on every call
Every premium-rate call has two parts, and it is worth understanding both before you ring.
- The service charge. This is the price of the service itself. On every number in this directory it is £1.00 for each minute of the call. It is shown on the card for each number.
- The access charge. This is added by your phone company for connecting you to the number. It is not set by us or by the service provider, and it differs by network, by tariff and by whether you are on a mobile or a landline. Your provider publishes it, usually as “calls to 09 numbers” or “service access charge” in its price guide.
The price you pay per minute is the two added together. That is why the cards here say “£1.00/min + network access charge” instead of one fixed figure: nobody can know your total without knowing your network.
Worked cost examples
These examples use made-up access charges to show how the sum works. Look up your own network’s figure and use the same method.
- Access charge 10p a minute: £1.00 + 10p = £1.10 a minute. A five-minute call costs £5.50 and a fifteen-minute call £16.50.
- Access charge 25p a minute: £1.25 a minute. Five minutes is £6.25 and fifteen minutes £18.75.
- Access charge 55p a minute (some mobile tariffs are higher than this): £1.55 a minute. Five minutes is £7.75 and fifteen minutes £23.25.
The lesson is that the same ten-minute call can cost noticeably different amounts depending on who you ring from. Decide a time limit, set a timer, and treat anything past that as a deliberate choice rather than an accident.
Mobile, landline and prepaid
Landline. Home landline providers usually have lower and more predictable access charges for 09 numbers, and the call appears on your next bill with the service details.
Mobile. This is how most people call, and it is where access charges are often highest. On a mobile you can tap a number and your phone dials it, which is quick but easy to do without checking the cost. Contract plans do not usually include 09 numbers in their bundled minutes.
Prepaid. Pay-as-you-go credit is deducted at the full rate, so a few minutes can use a surprising amount of credit. Some prepaid networks restrict premium-rate numbers unless you ask for them to be enabled.
Whatever you use, your network’s price guide is the only reliable source for the access charge. If you cannot find it, ask the network before you ring.
Calling from outside the UK
These are UK premium-rate numbers. Many overseas networks cannot connect to them at all, and where they can the cost can be completely different from the UK price shown, because international and roaming rates apply. If you are travelling or you live abroad, check with your own provider whether an 09 UK number can be dialled and what it will cost before you try. Do not assume the UK price applies.
If you only reached this site by search from another country, a local service is likely to suit you better than a UK premium-rate number.
Who regulates premium-rate sex numbers
Phone-paid services in the UK, including adult chat on 09 numbers, are regulated by the Phone-paid Services Authority (PSA). In practice that means providers have to follow rules about advertising and pricing, and the price per minute has to be stated clearly wherever the number is promoted. That is why every card on this site shows the service charge and mentions the network access charge.
Other points you will see repeated on this site, and why:
- 18 or over, with the bill payer’s permission. Adult services are for adults only, and the person who pays the phone bill must agree to the charges.
- Calls are recorded to comply with PSA regulations. Recordings are held by the service provider, not this website.
- Service details may appear on your bill, so keep that in mind if the bill is shared.
- No meeting. This is an adult entertainment chat service. There is no possibility of meeting a caller, and photos on this site are for entertainment only and are not the callers.
- Promotional texts. We may send free promotional SMS. Send ‘STOP ALL’ to 07860086062 to opt out.
How to read an 09 number
The digits after the 09 can tell you something about the service, but never about the price: the price is whatever the provider declares, which is why it has to be shown beside the number. Numbers in our directory begin 0909, and they are written in groups, for example 0909 074 0947, to make them easier to read and to dial. You may also see 0908, 0905 or 0871 in other places. Do not assume that a similar-looking number carries the same charge as the ones on this site. If a number is not listed here with its price, check the price before you ring.
A quick habit helps: before you tap any number on any website, find the price per minute written next to it. If you cannot find one, do not ring. Every card here states £1.00 per minute plus your network’s access charge, and every page repeats the full call-cost and age wording in the footer.
Checking and controlling what you spend
- Look up your access charge first. Search your network’s price guide for “09” or “premium rate” before you make your first call.
- Use a timer. Billing is per minute. A phone timer or an alarm set for your limit costs nothing and works every time.
- Set a spending limit. Most networks let you set a monthly cap on premium-rate spending or on your bill in general.
- Ask for a bar if you want one. You can ask your provider to block 09 numbers entirely, which is useful if you share a phone or you are worried about spending. You can usually remove the bar later.
- Read the itemised bill. Premium-rate calls are listed separately. Check them when the bill arrives rather than assuming they are right or wrong.

If something goes wrong
If a charge looks wrong, or you think you were billed for a call you did not make or for longer than you stayed on, act quickly and keep a record.
- Note the date, time and number from your bill.
- Contact the service provider’s Customer Careline on 0203 455 2145.
- If you are not satisfied, tell your phone company, which handled the billing, and ask how to escalate.
- You can also contact the Phone-paid Services Authority, which handles complaints about premium-rate services.
If you are worried about how much you are spending on adult chat, stop for a while, set a limit or bar 09 numbers with your provider, and speak to your GP or a free NHS wellbeing service if it feels out of control.
Questions about sex phone numbers in the UK
Are UK sex phone numbers legal?
Yes. Adult chat on 09 premium-rate numbers is lawful in the UK for people aged 18 and over and is regulated by the Phone-paid Services Authority.
How much does a call to a UK sex number cost?
On this site every number is £1.00 per minute plus your network’s access charge. The total depends on your phone company, so check its price guide for 09 numbers first.
Why is a call from my mobile dearer than from a landline?
Because the access charge is set by your own network, and mobile networks usually charge more than landline providers for premium-rate numbers.
Can I call a sex number from my mobile?
Yes. Tap the number on this site and your dialler opens with it ready, or dial the 09 number by hand. Check your access charge first because mobile charges are often higher.
Can I call these numbers from abroad?
Often not. Many overseas networks cannot connect to UK 09 numbers, and where they can, international rates apply. Check with your provider first.
Will the call show on my bill?
Service details may appear on your phone bill, so consider who sees it before you ring.
How do I stop my phone ringing up 09 charges?
Ask your network to bar 09 numbers or set a spending limit on premium-rate calls. Both are usually free and can be reversed later.
Do any of these numbers work by text or WhatsApp?
No. The numbers listed here are voice-call lines only. We do not offer text or WhatsApp chat.
Who do I contact if there is a problem?
Call the Customer Careline on 0203 455 2145. Phone-paid services are regulated by the Phone-paid Services Authority (PSA).
